Early indications are a software performance monitor induced a reboot of the spacecraft\u2019s onboard computer. The spacecraft acted as expected during the transition into safe mode, restarted successfully and is healthy.\u00a0 High-rate data has been restored, and the spacecraft is conducting flight software diagnostics. The spacecraft is healthy and we are working our standard recovery procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u300c\u30bb\u30fc\u30d5\u30e2\u30fc\u30c9\u306b\u5165\u3063\u305f\u6642\u70b9\u3067\u3001\u63a2\u67fb\u6a5f\u306f\u6728\u661f\u306b\u63a5\u8fd1\u3092\u59cb\u3081\u306613\u6642\u9593\u4ee5\u4e0a\u3082\u7d4c\u3063\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u300d\u3068\u3001\u30ab\u30ea\u30d5\u30a9\u30eb\u30cb\u30a2\u5dde\u30d1\u30b5\u30c7\u30ca\u306b\u3042\u308bNASA\u306e\u30b8\u30a7\u30c3\u30c8\u63a8\u9032\u7814\u7a76\u6240\u306e\u30b8\u30e5\u30ce\u30fc\u306e\u30d7\u30ed\u30b8\u30a7\u30af\u30c8\u30de\u30cd\u30fc\u30b8\u30e3\u30fc\u306e\u30ea\u30c3\u30af\u30fb\u30cb\u30d0\u30c3\u30b1\u30f3\u306f\u8a9e\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u300c\u307e\u3060\u6728\u661f\u304b\u3089\u306e\u5f37\u3044\u653e\u5c04\u7dda\u3068\u78c1\u5834\u3092\u53d7\u3051\u308b\u3068\u3053\u308d\u306b\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u63a2\u67fb\u6a5f\u306f\u6b63\u5e38\u3067\u3042\u308a\u6a19\u6e96\u7684\u306a\u5fa9\u5e30\u624b\u9806\u3067\u9032\u3081\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u300d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The spacecraft is designed to enter safe mode if its onboard computer perceives conditions are not as expected. In this case, the safe mode turned off instruments and a few non-critical spacecraft components, and it confirmed the spacecraft was pointed toward the sun to ensure the solar arrays received power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u63a2\u67fb\u6a5f\u306b\u642d\u8f09\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b\u30b3\u30f3\u30d4\u30e5\u30fc\u30bf\u306f\u3001\u60f3\u5b9a\u5916\u306e\u72b6\u6cc1\u306b\u306a\u308b\u3068\u30bb\u30fc\u30d5\u30e2\u30fc\u30c9\u306b\u5165\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306b\u8a2d\u8a08\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u4eca\u56de\u306e\u5834\u5408\u3082\u30bb\u30fc\u30d5\u30e2\u30fc\u30c9\u306b\u306a\u308a\u3001\u3059\u3079\u3066\u306e\u89b3\u6e2c\u6a5f\u5668\u3068\u3001\u5e7e\u3064\u304b\u306e\u6b62\u3081\u3066\u3082\u5927\u4e08\u592b\u306a\u63a2\u67fb\u6a5f\u306e\u88c5\u7f6e\u3092\u505c\u6b62\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u305d\u3057\u3066\u63a2\u67fb\u6a5f\u306e\u59ff\u52e2\u3092\u592a\u967d\u306b\u5411\u3051\u3066\u592a\u967d\u96fb\u6c60\u306e\u5145\u96fb\u3092\u53d7\u3051\u3089\u308c\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306b\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mission managers are continuing to study an unrelated issue with the performance of a pair of valves that are part of the spacecraft\u2019s propulsion system. Last week the decision was made to postpone a burn of the spacecraft\u2019s main engine that would have reduced Juno\u2019s orbital period from 53.4 to 14 days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u30df\u30c3\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3\u30de\u30cd\u30fc\u30b8\u30e3\u306f\u3001\u63a2\u67fb\u6a5f\u306e\u63a8\u9032\u30b7\u30b9\u30c6\u30e0\u306e\u4e00\u90e8\u3067\u3042\u308b2\u3064\u306e\u30d0\u30eb\u30d6\u306e\u554f\u984c\u3068\u9055\u3046\u3068\u3053\u308d\u3092\u8abf\u3079\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002\u5148\u9031\u306f\u3001\u30b8\u30e5\u30ce\u30fc\u306e\u6728\u661f\u5468\u56de\u8ecc\u9053\u309253.4\u65e5\u304b\u308914\u65e5\u306b\u5909\u66f4\u3059\u308b\u305f\u3081\u30e1\u30a4\u30f3\u30a8\u30f3\u30b8\u30f3\u306e\u5674\u5c04\u3092\u3059\u308b\u4e88\u5b9a\u3067\u3057\u305f\u304c\u3001\u5ef6\u671f\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The next close flyby is scheduled on Dec. 11, with all science instruments on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u6b21\u306e\u6728\u661f\u3078\u306e\u63a5\u8fd1\u306f12\u670811\u65e5\u306b\u4e88\u5b9a\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u3066\u3001\u5168\u3066\u306e\u89b3\u6e2c\u88c5\u7f6e\u3092\u52d5\u4f5c\u3055\u305b\u308b\u4e88\u5b9a\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\uff08\u8a33\u8005\u6ce8\uff09\u4ee5\u4e0b\u306e\u8a18\u4e8b\u306f\u65e2\u5831\u306e8\u670827\u65e5\u306e\u89b3\u6e2c\u30c7\u30fc\u30bf\u306b\u95a2\u3057\u3066\u306e\u3082\u306e\u3067\u3001\u5225\u9014\u8a18\u4e8b\u3082\u6295\u7a3f\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u306e\u3067\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u8a33\u306f\u7701\u7565\u81f4\u3057\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Juno science team continues to analyze returns from the first close flyby on Aug. 27. Revelations from that flyby include that Jupiter\u2019s magnetic fields and aurora are bigger and more powerful than originally thought. Juno\u2019s Microwave Radiometer instrument (MWR) also provided data that give mission scientists their first glimpse below the planet\u2019s swirling cloud deck. The radiometer instrument can peer about 215 to 250 miles (350 to 400 kilometers) below Jupiter\u2019s clouds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the MWR data, it is as if we took an onion and began to peel the layers off to see the structure and processes going on below,\u201d said Bolton. \u201cWe are seeing that those beautiful belts and bands of orange and white we see at Jupiter\u2019s cloud tops extend in some version as far down as our instruments can see, but seem to change with each layer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The JunoCam public outreach camera also was operating during the Aug. 27 flyby. The raw images from that flyby (and all future flybys) were made available on the JunoCam website\u00a0 (www.missionjuno.swri.edu\/junocam) for the public to not only peruse but to process into final image products. JunoCam is the first outreach camera to venture beyond the asteroid belt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJunoCam has a small operations team and no image processing team, so we took a leap of faith that the public would step up and help us generate images of Jupiter from the raw data,\u201d said Candy Hansen, JunoCam imaging scientist from the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona. \u201cAll sorts of people are coming to the JunoCam site and providing their own aesthetic. We have volunteers from all over the world, and they are doing beautiful work. So far all our expectations for JunoCam have not only been met but are being exceeded, and we\u2019re just getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The final image products include straightforward images of the solar system\u2019s largest world, but also some with a certain artistic license, including a variation on Vincent Van Gogh\u2019s Starry Night painting and even a \u201csmiley face\u201d made from an image of Jupiter\u2019s south pole. These amateur-generated JunoCam images are not only being used to help interest the media and public in this mission to the most massive planet in the solar system, but are engaging Juno\u2019s science team as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amateurs are giving us a different perspective on how to process images,\u201d said Hansen. \u201cThey are experimenting with different color enhancements, different highlights or annotations than we would normally expect.\u00a0 They are identifying storms tracked from Earth to connect our images to the historical record. This is citizen science at its best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Juno spacecraft launched on Aug. 5, 2011, from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and arrived at Jupiter on July 4, 2016. During its mission of exploration, Juno soars low over the planet&#8217;s cloud tops &#8212; as close as about 2,600 miles (4,100 kilometers). During these flybys, Juno will probe beneath the obscuring cloud cover of Jupiter and study its auroras to learn more about the planet&#8217;s origins, structure, atmosphere and magnetosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Juno&#8217;s name comes from Roman mythology. The mythical god Jupiter drew a veil of clouds around himself to hide his mischief, and his wife &#8212; the goddess Juno &#8212; was able to peer through the clouds and reveal Jupiter&#8217;s true nature.<\/p>\n<p>JPL manages the Juno mission for the principal investigator, Scott Bolton, of Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. Juno is part of NASA&#8217;s New Frontiers Program, which is managed at NASA&#8217;s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, for NASA&#8217;s Science Mission Directorate. Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Denver, built the spacecraft.
